Bethlehem Catholic’s baseball team will have a new face in the dugout leading the charge with Matt Corsi stepping into this his first season as head coach.
With Corsi succeeding long time head coach Mike Grasso after 35 years leading the charge, it’ll be a different voice in the program that features a young nucleus this season.
“We will be young on the mound but having Matt Martinez back as a veteran catcher will help,” said Corsi. “This is a very close team and it shows every practice how they interact and prepare for practice.”
Some of the top players at the Hawks disposal this season will be Matt Martinez (Sr. C); Cole Hershman (Sr. 1B-P); Jaden Clements (Sr. 2B-P) and Chaise Albus (Jr. OF-P).
Other players of note include seniors Hunter Cantwell, Gavin Kirsh, Hudson Oberholzer, Jason Batista and Jack Kaczor.
Juniors in the fold are Peter Martinez, Evan Druckenmiller, Colston Jasionowski, Matt Yusella and Brett Fyrer, as well as sophomores Eric Wert and Beckam McNally. Freshman Anthony Martinez figures to be in the picture as well.
With the team being young, Corsi still hopes they can make a push for a postseason run.
“Our team goal is to qualify for the district playoffs,” he said. “To achieve that we need to continue to work hard at practice and learn from our mistakes. We are all chomping at the bit to get out there and play some high school baseball.”
Jaden Clements races toward first base during a game from 2019. He's a key returner this year.
