NASD board approves union contracts

Collective bargaining agreements with Northampton Area Maintenance Association and Northampton Area Custodial Association were approved by Northampton Area School District Board of Education at the March 22 meeting.
The school board voted unanimously 9-0 to approve the contracts, which provide 2-percent salary increases each year of the contracts, July 1 through June 30, 2023, for 14 maintenance employees and 42 custodians.
The NASD school board also voted to approve:
• Renewal agreement with Aramark Educational Services LLC for food service management for the 2021-22 school year
• NASD Business Administrator Matthew Sawarynski as NASD open records officer, effective April 1
• Resignation of Amy Deutsch, cafeteria monitor, effective Feb. 17
• First Northern Bank & Trust Company, Palmerton, for district banking services, as of July 1. Accounts may be opened before July 1 in transition from Santander Bank.
• Settlement of real estate tax assessment appeals filed by NASD in Northampton County Court of Common Pleas against Lehigh Valley Industrial Park Lot 5 Owner LLC for tax parcel, 951 Willowbrook Road, Allen Township, and against Lehigh Valley Industrial Park Lot 4 Owner LLC for tax parcel, 250 Radar Drive, Allen Township, for district tax year beginning July 1, and authorize Attorney Raymond P. Wendolowski, representing NASD, to execute a settlement stipulation of $525,000 for both properties
• Creation of Carol Wunderler Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit Northampton Area High School senior track and field scholar-athletes
• Accept a donation of children’s clothing from National Giving Alliance, Warminster, Bucks County
At the Jan. 25 board meeting, school directors voted to approve:
• Scott Oste, NASD curriculum supervisor, secondary education, effective April 1, at $85,000, prorated, with benefits
• Alyssa Miller, long-term substitute learning support teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, Jan. 11 through 2020-21 school year, at $291.78 per diem
• Christopher Creyer, long-term substitute social studies teacher, NAMS, Jan. 22 through 2020-21 school year, at $287.53 per diem
• Megan Marker, long-term substitute teacher, NAMS, effective Oct. 30, 2020, through 2020-21 school year, at $287.53 per diem
• Samantha Gaydos, short-term substitute fifth-grade teacher, George Wolf Elementary School, Jan. 14-April 19, at $125 per diem
• Approve contract with Barbara Carrington, speech and language services, Lehigh Elementary School, not to exceed $8,250
• Resignation of Katie Wasilko, long-term substitute social studies teacher, NAMS, effective Jan. 11
At the Jan. 11 board meeting, school directors approved:
• Tricia Nagle, long-term substitute second-grade teacher, George Wolf Elementary, effective Dec. 1, 2020, through 2020-21 school year, at $287.53 per diem
• Resignation of Kyle Haas, security officer, head football coach, weight room supervisor and event staff game manager, effective Jan. 5
• Resignation of Shamarie Boreman, cafeteria monitor, Moore Elementary School, effective Jan. 10
• Accept, with appreciation, a donation of NAHS memorabilia, including diplomas, yearbooks, music and athletic programs and other artifacts donated by Melody Geary DiStefano
The board meets 6:30 p.m. April 12 in the cafeteria at NAMS, 1617 Laubach Ave., Northampton. The meeting is open to the public with COVID-19 mitigation protocol in effect.
