One vehicle after another stopped on the side of the road to witness a rite of spring like no other.
Hundreds of snow geese had landed on a pond in New Tripoli March 8 compelling drivers to pull over so they could watch the incredible display.
“The owner should start to charge all of those who stop,” said one driver, lured by the sheer number of snow geese vying for a spot on the pond in the chilly March breeze. “They won’t be here tomorrow.”
Just as she pulled away, two other vehicles veered off Holben Valley Road attracted by the loud clatter of hundreds upon hundreds of birds.
“Look, there are more landing,” said a second driver, with cellphone in hand.
She wasn’t the only one looking to capture the moment.
Nature’s amazing beauty was sure to be a topic of discussion at dinner where quite a few residents would take out their phones and share a rare moment, a glorious reminder that spring is surely on the way.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, this is the time of year that the snow geese head north to Arctic regions of North America to breed, just as the rest of us are getting ready to enjoy warmer days.
