New mobile units to aid in vaccine distribution

Bennett Toyota, of Allentown, on March 19, presented three new vehicles to Lehigh Valley Health Network to aid in the hospital’s efforts to get COVID-19 vaccines more widely distributed to those in the region who are eligible, but lack the means to get to hospitals or drive-thru clinics.

Dr. Brian Nester, president and chief executive officer of the health network, said since January mobile vaccinations have been provided to more than 2,000 people, mostly at skilled nursing facilities and personal care homes not served by commercial pharmacies.

Nester said “thanks to Bennett Toyota, we will be able to get to more people who need the vaccine, specifically those who have been disproportionally affected by the pandemic.”

The vehicles will be used to transport vaccines and IT infrastructure such as computers and medical teams to people throughout the region in senior high-rises, community centers and other facilities with limited transportation and other access barriers, Nester said.
