Sheckler Elementary learns virtually due to COVID-19 cases

Due to four active COVID-19 cases within a rolling 14-day time frame, Sheckler Elementary School moved to virtual instruction through March 23. Students were expected to return to in-person classes March 24, according to Catasauqua Area School District Superintendent of Schools Robert Spengler.

A March 14 notification reported two confirmed cases at Catasauqua High School and one case at Sheckler Elementary.

There were two notifications posted March 15. The first reported two confirmed cases at CHS. The second informed families of one case at Sheckler.

A March 19 notification reported two new cases at Sheckler and one case at Catasauqua Middle School.

Both CHS and CMS will remain open for instruction.

Spengler reported appropriate quarantines and isolations are in effect, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines.

“We will work directly with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and consider local school data when making decisions to alter the instructional mode,” Spengler said in the notifications. “To date, health and contact tracing data does not indicate spread occurring within our school buildings.”

The administration is closely monitoring the situation.
