John “Sonny” J. Unger Jr., 85, of Whitehall, died March 20, 2021, at Whitehall Manor Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Bernadine A. (Hodge) Unger for 61 years.

Born in Whitehall, he was a son of the late John and Bertha (Deutsch) Unger.

He was a molder in the iron foundry at Bethlehem Steel for 43 years.

He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Coplay.

He was a member at various gun clubs and was a lifelong member of the NRA.

He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl and her husband Richard Lychak of Whitehall; two sons, John and his wife Donna and Michael and his wife Erika, all of Slatington; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sandra and her husband Roland Reinert of Whitehall.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Unger.
