Joseph Harvilla, 74, has been charged with criminal homicide after the March 15 shooting of his neighbor in Moore Township.
Harvilla, who allegedly also shot himself, was preliminarily arraigned from a hospital bed. Bail has been denied for reasons of both public safety and concern that Harvilla would harm himself, according to reports.
A preliminary hearing has been tentatively scheduled for March 26 before Magisterial District Judge Robert A. Hawke.
Reports indicate Moore Township police were called to 1112 Moser Road before 11 a.m. March 15 for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found Harvilla suffering from a gun shot wound to the head. According to a report from Trooper Nathan Branosky, of the Pennsylvania State Police, Harvilla told officers he had shot himself as well as a neighbor who lived across the street.
That neighbor, 42-year-old Christopher Robbin Debellis, was found dead in the rear of his home at 1115 Moser Road, Branosky said.
He had been shot inside and outside his residence with both a handgun and a rifle, according to the report.
The investigation revealed the neighbors had been disputing for months over a water pipe.
A GoFundMe page to help defray funeral expenses had raised $10,540 as of press time. According to Debellis’ brother Gabe, who created the account, remaining funds will be donated to Lehigh Valley Crime Victims Council.
