Church holds meals for charities
Holy Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St., Catasauqua, held a pork and sauerkraut dinner Feb. 20.
The church is continuing with its credo of holding dinners to benefit other organizations. Proceeds of this dinner went to Mrs. Nothstein’s Helping Hands Fund.
Mrs. Nothstein’s Helping Hands Fund was created in memory of Debbie Nothstein after her sudden passing in 2010. Her life was dedicated to helping others, and this fund is to help keep that passion and dream alive.
A number of church volunteers assembled at the church fellowship room and kitchen to cook and serve the takeout food. The pork and sauerkraut were accompanied by mashed potatoes and a roll with butter. An abundance of baked goods were also available for patrons.
Mrs. Nothstein’s Helping Hands Fund has distributed tens of thousands of dollars to those in need. Financial assistance has come in the form of school supplies, holiday gifts, rent and utility bill assistance and more. Potential recipients’ needs are assessed and support is given as needed to get them through a difficult time.
Carol Cunningham, Diane and Lou Carrara, Rick Martson and Cheryl Kneiss were some of the cheerful church volunteers. Several others staffed the sign-in area.
They were all happy with providing 150 dinners to raise funds.
“We just want to help out,” Diane Carrara noted.
Holy Trinity allows no grass to grow between its philanthropic toes and already had the next event and beneficiary planned - a meatloaf dinner, which was held March 20, for pickup only. The meal featured meatloaf, corn, mashed potatoes, a green salad and a brownie. Proceeds were earmarked to benefit Ripples Community Inc. of Allentown.
