Beginning May 1
Mayor Robert J. Donchez announced the City of Bethlehem and the Kellyn Foundation have combined forces to increase access to healthy foods in the City of Bethlehem. With financial assistance from the city’s Community Development Block Grant COVID funds, the Kellyn Foundation will be adding 1 to 2 days to its current schedule of providing an “Eat Real Food” Mobile Market to provide locally farmed fruits and vegetables to the Southside starting May 1.
“I was saddened to learn of the closing of Ahart‘s Market located in the City’s South Side. In response, I want to let the public know we are doing everything we can to recruit another grocery store,” said Mayor Robert Donchez. “In the interim, we have partnered with Kellyn Foundation, a nonprofit corporation that has a mission to develop, support, facilitate and implement food programs that encourage family and community physical and emotional wellness.”
The Mobile Market plans weekly stops at a selected site to provide families with locally grown fresh produce at an affordable price. Market staff also provides market customers with nutritional and cooking education. Family vouchers will be available to South Side residents.
