During their in-person March 11 meeting, Lynn supervisors approved the appointment of a township emergency management coordinator.

New Tripoli Fire Chief Gary Kuntz Jr. said after “much consideration,” he would recommend Chief Engineer Phil Hobel for the position.

“This decision was based on many factors, including certification levels, call volume percentages, training percentages, as well as Phil’s overall effort in the fire department,” Kuntz said, as he presented a letter of recommendation to the board for Hobel.

Supervisors approved Hobel as the new emergency management coordinator, contingent upon receiving his letter of interest for the position.

In the remainder of his report, Kuntz said the fire company had responded to 37 emergency calls to date, and the fire team, fire police and any members with HazMat training had completed their required annual HazMat refreshers.

He said members must complete the refresher by the end of the first quarter this year to remain active.

Kuntz said the company had unveiled its new grain bin rescue sleeve at a recent rescue class, and the equipment will be mounted on the department’s rescue truck.

Additionally, he noted gun calendar tickets remain on sale and, that for every 10 tickets sold, sellers are entered into a drawing to win a Honda 4-wheeler valued at $8,000.

Kuntz also asked for the board’s permission to let the Boy Scouts collect food during the fire company’s May 8 yard sale at Ontelaunee Park.

Supervisors agreed to the request.

He also asked if the township would monetarily support the acquisition of a new tanker truck, as fire company representatives were meeting with manufacturers to spec out the designs, as well as with organizations to provide funding.

Kuntz said the cost would be around $430,000-$450,000.

Supervisor’s Chairman Justin Smith said in accordance with the township fire study, if the tanker was the next piece of equipment needed to be replaced, the township would help support the project financially, though exact figures would be required.

The next supervisors’ meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. April 8.
