Lehigh Farm Bureau establishes agriculture scholarships

Lehigh County Farm Bureau Board of Directors has announced the establishment of two scholarship opportunities.

The Scott Sell Memorial Scholarship in agriculture is in memory of the late Scott Sell who was owner, partner and operator of Crystal Springs Dairy Farm, Schnecksville, and a LCFB member.

This scholarship is made possible by generous donations of family and friends.

The $1,000 Sell Scholarship is available to Lehigh County students.

Applicants, who are required to pursue a career in agriculture or an agricultural-related field, will be furthering their education in either a four-year or two-year technical school or other qualified program that related to agriculture.

The application is available to high school seniors in all 12 public and four private schools in Lehigh County.

The Paul and Nancy Semmel and Family Scholarship in agriculture is made possible by a generous donation from the Semmel Family.

Paul Semmel, state representative for the 187th District for 22 years, is now retired.

The Semmels and their family, who own and operate Excelsior Dairy Farm, also near Schnecksville, and are LCFB members.

The Semmel scholarship, also for $1,000, is for post high school Lehigh County students pursuing a career in agriculture or an agriculture related field.

Parents or guardians must be residents of Lehigh County.

Eligible applicants will be enrolled and attending on a full-time basis a two- to four-year program of study at either a technical/trade school, community college or college or university and are going into or are in their second/last year of study or sophomore, junior or senior year.

Both scholarship funds are open to Farm Bureau members, Friends of Agriculture, nonmembers, supporters of agriculture and any others who desire to financially support these worthy scholarships.
