At the March 9 Coplay Borough Council meeting, council approved the use of Saylor Field 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays March 25 to June 10 for the Coplay Sports Grasshopper and T-ball teams.
Council also approved the individuals who have volunteered to sit on the park and recreation committee. These new members are Wes Christman, Keith Sodl and Tiffany Benson.
Also on the agenda was the topic of having Explorer Post 101 and the Coplay Athletic Club resume holding monthly meetings at the borough hall. The motion did not carry, with four members voting in opposition and three approving.
At the March 2 workshop meeting, council discussed concerns about reopening the hall since this is the borough’s administration building. The general theme at the workshop was that the main priority was the health and safety of the workers during the pandemic.
Councilman Mark Molitoris made the motion to compensate returning Parkway Pool lifeguards for their American Red Cross recertification. The cost is $165. The motion dictates half of the amount would be remitted to the lifeguards halfway through the pool season and the other half reimbursed at the end of the season. The motion carried 7-0.
Councilman Steve Burker is arranging for a Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce representative to attend the April 5 workshop meeting. Council is interested in learning more about the benefits of being a Chamber member, especially in relation to obtaining grants. After this session, council will vote on membership renewal with the Chamber in the near future.
Lastly, council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 1478, authorizing and adopting the collective bargaining agreement between Coplay Borough and Teamster Local 773 and authorizing the implementation of its term.
