Macungie Manor conditional use hearing continues

During the Feb. 18 Lower Macungie Board of Commissioners meeting, the conditional use hearing for the proposed Macungie Manor continued. Before this hearing, South Whitehall Township made the decision to not be a part of this development. Therefore, the memory care building will not be built as it was on the South Whitehall Township property. Commissioners questioned how this project will be affected by the loss of this building.

Concerns continue to be expressed over the size of the project, traffic, the width of Hillview Road, water drainage and the development over all.

Residents have expressed concerns about the speed of traffic. There is also a dip in the road which makes vehicles disappear from sight when attempting to go out in traffic. Hillview Road is narrow also making it difficult to negotiate at times.

Water drainage in the area has been discussed often. Several properties experience ponding during rain and snow events.

At one time, the area was considered for single family homes. The land was deemed inappropriate due to rock formations. So this adds to the concern for this development to be built on this property.

The conditional use hearing will continue 6 p.m. March 18. It was suggested by Commissioner Brian Higgins Macungie Manor developer Abraham Atiyeh attend the hearing to answer questions about the potential changes to the project with the absence of the memory care unit.

In other business, the township approved a roster of volunteers who will receive the volunteer service income tax credit. These volunteers have met the requirements for the credit.
