Swearing-in day at the state Capitol is extra special this year as state Reps. Milou Mackenzie, R-131st, and Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, make Pennsylvania history as the first mother and son pair to be elected to the state House of Representatives.

“I am truly honored to serve the residents of the 131st legislative district, as well as serve alongside my son Ryan,” Milou Mackenzie said. “Having my son by my side makes this experience that much more meaningful.

“It has been an incredible journey thus far and I am eager to begin my work in Harrisburg to help protect the rights and freedoms of those whom I represent and do what I can to ensure that the voices of all Pennsylvanians are heard by the General Assembly.”

Beginning her first term, Milou Mackenzie says her priorities this session include ensuring Pennsylvania students receive a quality education while still respecting the concerns of the taxpayers; holding the line on wasteful spending; finding ways to assist small business owners; and further supporting Pennsylvania veterans.

“I am honored to have been sworn in alongside my mother, Milou, as the first mother-son pair of representatives to serve Pennsylvania,” Ryan Mackenzie said. “I am humbled to have the continued faith and support of the 134th Legislative District. We will work together to strengthen education and job creation throughout the commonwealth.”

Ryan Mackenzie, who is entering his sixth term in office, is seeking to continue to address current COVID-19 and related health care issues brought on by the pandemic; attract business investments and create additional job opportunities to help further stimulate the economy; and reform current election laws to resolve issues brought forward during the previous election cycle.
