Charles L. “Charlie” Shimer, 82, of Allentown, died Feb. 28, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife, Frances A. (Riccaboni) Shimer, were married 56 years.
Born Oct. 6, 1938, in Whitehall Township, he was the son of the late Esther (Fenstermaker) Spitko.
A graduate of Northampton High School, he excelled in all sports, especially football, for which he became an inductee into the Lehigh Valley Hall of Fame.
A merchandiser at Lehigh Traders, Allentown, for many years before retiring, he also was a bartender at The Paddock, South Whitehall Township, for many years.
He will be forever remembered for his kindness and his genuine personality.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lori A. Rea, of Allentown; grandson, David C. Rea, of Coopersburg; and nephew, Tracy S. Roth, of Orefield.
He was predeceased by siblings Eleanor L. Shupp and Robert H. Roth; and a nephew, William J. Roth.
His service will be private, at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours.
