Ralph G. Frankenfield
Ralph Guy (Pappy) Frankenfield, 91, died Feb. 13, 2021, from kidney disease. He was the husband of Avonne Evelyn Knauss. They were married for 66 years. He was the son of the late Amenia Fink and Guy Miles Frankenfield. He was raised in Wescosville and graduated from Emmaus High School in 1947.
Growing up, he ran with the “Kraussy Gang” where he developed his love for basketball, cars and hijinks.
He served during the Korean War in the Naval Air Force as a 2nd Class Petty Officer aviation machinist mate based in Alameda, Calif. and Honolulu, Hawaii. He played on the Naval base basketball and baseball teams. While in Alameda, he played basketball against Bill Russell who was on the University of San Francisco team and he once broke up a no-hitter in the ninth inning of a baseball game.
He worked on the assembly line for Willard (Exide) Battery from 1954 until the plant closed in 1988 and was elected by his co-workers to represent them as a committeeman for the local UAW.
He was especially proud of his cars (which he changed like socks), his Kentucky Bluegrass lawn and his woodworking.
He loved golf with his friends he met regularly on the links (and the 19th hole) well into his 80s, rooting for the Phillies, Eagles and Iron- Pigs.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Guy (Lynn Briskie), of Cedar Hill, Texas; a daughter, Jane (Riddick) Weber, of Bethlehem; grandchildren Guy F. (Gabby), of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Brooke (Justin) Kintz, of Arlington, Va., Katelyn (Matt) Forero, of Oak Park, Calif., Sarah (Sergey) Hunusov, of Bethlehem, Rebecca Burcaw, of Philadelphia; great-granddaughters, Gianna, Gillian and Vivienne; many grand dogs. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeanne Miller, of Allentown and a brother, Robert, of Emmaus.

A private service will be held for the family through the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
