Homeowners voice noise concerns
Hanover Township Council discussed the township’s pending noise ordinance during the March 3 meeting.
Several residents of Saylor’s Mobile Home Park, 3350 Airport Road, discussed problems they have had with guests at a nearby motel. According to the discussion, there are many instances of loud noises at off-hours, resulting in complaints. It was reported motel management seldom takes the time to address the guests causing the noise complaints.
“We have a continuing noise problem with the guests at the motel,” said Eric Miller, Saylor’s Mobile Home Park manager and owner. “Residents at the mobile park are homeowners, and they want to be treated with respect - and the noise is too much.”
Miller reported there is loud noise during the early hours, and the residents who work from home are being disturbed.
“There are times when the guests are loud, and a homeowner has to leave the park,” Miller said. “We have a community that takes care of residents, and we take pride in our homes. We ask the guests at the motel to take care of our community.”
The mobile home park is located near Days Hotel by Wyndham Allentown Airport, Airport Road.
Township officials want to have a clearly defined set of regulations for conduct for all residents of the township.
Pennsylvania State Police are working on how the residents are to be protected, it was reported. State police want to be sure local officials have the equipment needed to enforce the ordinance.
The noise ordinance is expected to be on the agenda at the next meeting.
In other business, Councilman Michael Woolley took some time to address how the state and township are expected to handle meeting minutes. Woolley said the purpose of minutes is to explain and address specifics of council’s discussion.
“We do not expect verbatim minutes, nor do we want long discussions,” Woolley said. “Minutes are prescribed by rule orders and follow a format. The minutes should be enough to address what was discussed and not be commentary.”
In other action, council will look into a new commercial space to determine if requirements for compressed gas usage are identified. The township and city of Allentown are working with planners and developers to look at Lloyd Street and American Parkway.
