Elaine Becker, 93, formerly of Macungie and Reading, died in the early hours of Feb. 22, 2021, in the care of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. She was the loving wife of the late Robert E. Becker Jr., who died in 1995. Born in Louisville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late William and E. Francis (Hund) Spangler.
She was a graduate of West Reading High School and attended the McCann School of Business.
She worked at the Bell Telephone Company for 10 years, leaving the workforce to raise her family.
A devout woman, she was a member of St. Paul’s UCC, Trexlertown.
She will be remembered for her legacy of service to others, especially her dedication to causes related to hunger and children. Well into her 80s, she volunteered as a cabin attendant for the Special Olympics at Ft. Indiantown Gap.
She treasured time with her children and grandchildren. When not volunteering, she could be found enjoying a round of golf or tending her garden.
She is survived by children: Jeffrey and his wife, Elaine, of Birdsboro and Larry and his wife, Dori, of Wellsboro; grandchildren, Katie Merluzzi (Michael), Zachary (Christina), Emily Mathisen (Craig), Randy (Elizabeth) and Lori Smith (Derrick); seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Jane Greiner and a brother, William Spangler.
