League’s ‘Running for Office’ a success

Candidates for many local offices attended the 10th biennial Leagueof Women Voters “Running for Local Office” Workshop Jan. 30. The four-hour workshop, offered via Zoom webinar for the first time, attracted 45 attendees, the average figure for in-person workshops.

“Of all the things I have done over Zoom this past year, this was by far the most enjoyable and informative! The speakers were well chosen and each brought something different to the table. From the packet sent out beforehand to the very well-organized workshop, this was a great way to learn what to expect when running for office,” said Becky Hite, candidate, Northwestern Lehigh School District School Board.

Retiring event organizer Ken Mohr and the rest of the speakers shared their expertise. Mary Erdman, incoming president of the Lehigh County LWV, facilitated a panel discussion among four local politicians from the two major parties. A list of speakers may be found on the website, www.lwvlehighcounty.org.

“Running for office as a first time candidate can be confusing. This workshop was a terrific introduction to the process and procedures regarding campaigns. It also pointed me to people who were resources after the workshop ended. I highly recommend it,” said Timothy Kearney, Southern Lehigh School Board candidate

The next “Running for Local Office” Workshop will be in January 2023.
