Fire hydrants information
City of Bethlehem Fire Chief Warren Achey and the department are asking those residents and property owners who have a fire hydrant near their home or business to clear it of snow following and in case of future storms this winter. The department recommends shoveling three feet of clearance all the way around the fire hydrant with clear access to the street. This gives enough room for firefighters to hook up hose to the hydrant and open the hydrant safely. For information, visit https://www.bethlehem-pa.gov/Fire/About-Us

Residential and commercial properties with fire hydrants are reminded to shovel them out so that they are accessible in an emergency. The township will declare a snow emergency when the anticipated effects of the weather dictate. The snow emergency is broadcast on WAEB – 790 AM, WFMZ – Channel 69, via the Hanover Township Email Alert System and other broadcast, print and social media. In a snow emergency, parking on all township streets is prohibited and vehicles may be tagged ($75 fine) per §172-29 of theCodified Ordinance: Whenever a snow emergency has been declared it shall be unlawful for any vehicle to be abandoned or parked, on any public highway. Tickets may be issued once the parking ban goes into effect and, in some instances, prior to the snow actually starting to fall.
