NHS crowns 3 champs
Northampton crowned three champions at last weekend’s District XI AAA wrestling tournament at Parkland.
Carson Wagner, Dagan Condomitti, and Jagger Condomitti left no doubt they were worthy of their top-seeded billing as they became the first triumvirate of district champions for the K-Kids since 2011.
Wagner, the top-rated 106-pounder in PA, claimed his first high school title in what was considered by many experts the toughest weight class in this year’s field. He opened with an 18-2 tech fall over Blue Mountain’s Colin Seefeldt in the quarterfinals. In the semis, he gave up an early takedown to Becahi’s Charlie Pavis before returning the favor in the second period. A third period takedown and 3 near-fall points broke a 4-4 tie and sent Wagner to his first final.
He dominated Stroudsburg’s Josh Jasionowicz, rolling up a 10-1 lead before recording the fall in 5:03.
On winning his first district title Wagner said, “It feels good. Last year, with getting 3rd, I was in the consolation bracket and it felt good to stay out of it this year. I’ve been working on new shots and my hand fighting and it paid off.”
Dagan Condomitti, the NE regional champion at 126 pounds last year, has been dominant this year at 145. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Freedom’s Jared Karabinus in 50 seconds. Emmaus’ Evan Camire succumbed to a 20-5 tech fall in the semifinal. In the final, Whitehall’s Xavier Arner jumped out to a 2-0 lead, recording the first takedown against Dagan all season. The last 5 takedowns of the bout all went to the K-Kid on the way to a 12-5 victory.
Dagan described his emotions.
“I’m excited because everyone wants to get a district title,” he said. “I wanted to be a 4-time champion but last year I lost (runner up to Pottsville’s Wiley Kahler). It’s a journey. I’m trying to get first at states. I just have to keep up the hard work.”
At 160 pounds, Jagger Condomitti was like a lion with his prey, playing with his food before he ate it. He hung 15 points on PM West’s Dylan Blose before pinning him in 3:01. Parkland’s Edwin Moya was down 16-3 before falling in 2:38. Christian Reid of Liberty avoided getting pinned which allowed Jagger to score a 23-8 tech fall in 4:42. Becahi’s Landon Muth was the final victim. The former K-Kid was treated to 10 takedowns before being decked in 5:24.
His performance of an aggregate score of 76-21, 3 falls, and no takedowns surrendered earned Jagger his second consecutive Outstanding Wrestler award at the District XI AAA tournament.
Condomitti described his approach to the tournament.
“This is all preparation,” he said. “I was just trying to dominate. I was looking to get 100 points. It was good to get some time on the mat and get used to wearing the mask.”
