School board approves general obligation bonds for buildings
At the virtual Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting Feb. 8, the board approved the issuance of general obligation bonds up to $66,500,000.
The bonds will be used for the financing of capital improvements to school facilities and school buildings owned and operated by WCSD, including but not limited to renovations and improvements to WHS; the planning and construction of a new elementary school; various athletic field improvements, including facilities and equipment; and toward the refunding of WCSD’s general obligation note, series of 2020, the current refunding of all or a portion of WCSD’s 2012, 2013, 2015, 2015A, 2015B, 2016A and paying the costs of issuing of the bonds.
Approved resignations include Kandice Reinert, cafeteria worker at Zephyr Elementary School; Roy Fulkersin, districtwide computer technician; and Kaitlin Saylor, inclusion paraprofessional at Zephyr Elementary.
Approved salaried substitutes for the second semester include Michelle Lindenmuth, virtual kindergarten through 12th-grade teacher, at $51,048; Stephanie Steinberg, virtual teacher for grades 3-5, at $51,048; Joan Crowley, virtual special education kindergarten through eighth-grade teacher, at $51,048; Rochelle Fagan, fourth-grade teacher at Zephyr, at $51,048; Gayle Ganser, kindergarten through first-grade teacher at Gockley, at $54,869; and Elizabeth Cameline-Courtney, family and consumer science teacher at WCMS, at $51,048.
Approved support staff include Marsha Rivas, district business office secretary, at $36,093; and Man Ching Yeung, fifth-grade inclusion paraprofessional at Zephyr, at $18.44 per hour.
Approved coaches include Shaun O’Boyle, head baseball coach, at $6,410; Jeffrey Jones, Christopher Saliby, Christopher Schmidt and Ramon Rabeh, assistant baseball coaches, at $3,954 each; Michael Saccani and Jacob Meyers, assistant baseball coaches, volunteers; Zachary Winter and Ryan Schmidt, assistant baseball coaches, at $1,977 each; Vincent Santamaria and Carissa Caracio, assistant WCMS boys soccer coaches, at $2,454 each; Blake Morgan, head softball coach, at $6,410; Michael Deutsch and Deanna Stinner, assistant softball coaches, volunteers; Arthur Getchius, assistant WCMS softball coach, at $3,954; Richard Kern and Taylor Getchius, assistant WCMS softball coaches, volunteers; Edward Stinner, Kyle Stinner and Jeff Vivian, assistant softball coaches, at $3,954 each; Robert Panny, head boys tennis coach, at $3,136; Jennifer Bodnar, assistant boys tennis coach, at $2,046; Tyler Miller, head track and field coach, at $6,000; and George Cowitch, head boys volleyball coach, at $4,500.
The board granted tenure to middle school teachers Sarah Dreisbach and Natasha Lewis.
The next school board meeting will be 7 p.m. March 8. Committee meetings on operations/transportation, finance/personnel and education/student activities will be 4 p.m. March 22.
