Bertsch-Hokendauqua-Catasauqua Watershed Association is offering the Bud Cole Memorial Scholarship to all college-bound high school seniors residing within the boundaries of the watershed, including the Catasauqua and Northampton area school districts.

Interested students should fill out an application and write an essay about the following topic: “Discuss the impact of shifting human populations within the watershed - specifically, the European colonization of the late 18th century. How did changing land management strategies affect individual species? Can parallels be drawn to the suburban sprawl of today?”

The essays should be approximately 750 words and will be judged on content, topic development, grammar and spelling.

First prize is $500, and second prize is $250.

The entries are due March 1.

Applications and essays should be submitted to the school’s guidance office.
