Rohan Yanala, a sixth grade student, is the 2021 Springhouse Middle School Spelling Bee champion.

Rohan competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee online platform competition along with 42 other SMS students in early January.

Scoring a near-perfect 34/35, Rohan’s road to the championship took a detour when he had to compete in a spell-off with another student who tied him in that round.

The two boys faced off in a Zoom-room spell-off that ultimately crowned Rohan the champion.

He will represent Springhouse in the regional bee in March.
