Emmaus High School names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently enrolled as a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. I live with my parents, Michael and MaryAnn and my younger sister, Mae. We do not have any pets.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is physics because I love learning about how the universe works around us. I think it is fascinating we are able to explain how nature works through mathematical formulas.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. In high school, I have received the Principal’s Academic Excellence Award, Engaged Citizenship Award in Science, Most Valuable Player Award and Player’s Player Award in high school tennis, as well as a Certificate of Merit from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency. Additionally, I was a two-time state finalist in National History Day. I am also an AP Scholar and a member of National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?

A. I am an officer in Chorale, secretary of Select Choir and member of the Interact Club and Pediatric Cancer Club. As a Chorale member, I had the honor of performing at the Sistine Chapel in Italy, Carnegie Hall in New York City and other revered locations in addition to local venues. I have also been the team captain of the Emmaus girls tennis team for the past three years. Outside of school, I play tennis and coach clinics and private lessons at Brookside Country Club. I also play the piano. During each summer, I volunteered at local hospitals in addition to playing and coaching tennis.

Due to COVID-19, all of the club meetings have been virtual and the tennis season was shortened and limited to local teams. Also, my choral groups have been held outside and our performances have been canceled.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge is balancing my schoolwork, extracurricular activities and personal life. It is sometimes hard to find the right mix, but I think I have been able to prioritize everything well.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. After high school, I plan on attending college and my goal is to become a pediatrician.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I admire my mom because she is the most dedicated, generous and loving person I know and she always wants what is best for everyone around her. Her love shows in everything that she does.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I hope I am remembered for always being genuine and kind.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. As important as school is, always make time for yourself and enjoy spending time with people who make you happy.
