Emmaus High School names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently enrolled in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My family includes my parents Harry and Nicole, my brother Alex, my twin sister, Grace and my dog Penny.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is math because I like that it is challenging and always makes me think. I love the idea that you use math every day and there are many ways to get to the correct answer.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have received the Principal’s Academic Excellence Award for having a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher. Last year, I placed second in the FBLA group portion of the regional competition and was awarded fifth place at the State Virtual Award of Excellence ceremony. I am also a member of National Honor Society.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I am the vice president and secretary of the Economic and Investment Club and co-treasurer of the Interact Club. I am a Hornet Ambassador and a member of the Student Government Association and Future Business Leaders of America. Outside of school, I play intramural basketball and baseball and I also volunteer and serve on the junior board at Camelot for Children. COVID-19 has made it challenging to meet with these groups, but we have adapted by brainstorming safe ways to run our events using virtual platforms.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. The shift from traditional in-school learning to complete online instruction would be what I consider my biggest challenge to date. Trying to learn and retain new material at a faster pace, ask questions and remain focused has been difficult. It is tough to step away from the computer and take a break when everything from school, homework and club meetings is done virtually.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. After graduation, I will be attending the Villanova School of Business, where I look forward to figuring out my career path.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my parents because they have shaped me into the person I am today. They have shown me what hard work looks like and the importance of always doing the right thing, such as helping, including and thinking of others and not just myself.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as a person who was always kind, respectful, hardworking and helpful.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. The best advice I would give to my peers is to always be yourself, try your best, never compromise your values or beliefs for anyone and be kind to everyone around you because a little kindness goes a long way.
