Thomas G. Haffner, 95, of Catasauqua, died Feb. 1, 2021, at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall. He was the husband of Doris (Miller) Haffner for 62 years.
Born in Fullerton, he was the son of the late Aaron and Violet (Bickert) Haffner.
He was a 1943 graduate of Whitehall High School.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber plane in the 15th Army Air Corps in the European Theater, stationed in Foggia, Italy. He completed 30 missions from 1943 to 1945.
He attended Millersville State College and earned a degree in industrial arts education in 1950.
He was an industrial arts teacher for more than 30 years, teaching in Wilson Borough, and then at Trexler Middle School, Allentown. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua.
He was a mason with Porter Lodge 284, North Catasauqua, and was a member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 367. He was honored as a Hometown Hero by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in March 2017.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Terry Ritter with Barry and Susan Bocian with Blaze; four grandchildren, Ryan Ritter with Samantha, Scott Ritter with Erin, Zachariah Bocian with Nicole Kromer and Veronica Bocian with Kathleen Oswalt; and six great-grandchildren, Mia, Dylan, Boedy and Harley Ritter and Layla and Blaze Bocian.
He was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Haffner.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
