CASD reports COVID-19 cases

Catasauqua Area School District Superintendent Robert Spengler is keeping families informed by reporting new cases of COVID-19 within the district.

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported in a Jan. 31 notification to families.

Both these new cases are attributed to Catasauqua High School.

A Feb. 4 notification informed families about four new cases in the district. Three cases are attributed to Catasauqua Middle School, and one was reported at Sheckler Elementary School.

A Feb. 9 notification reported three new cases - one at each of the district schools. All district schools will remain open as these cases occurred during a time of extended school closures due to inclement weather.

Spengler reported appropriate quarantines and isolations are in effect, in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Pennsylvania Department of Health guidelines.

“We will work directly with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and consider local school data when making decisions to alter the instructional mode,” Spengler said in the notifications. “To date, health and contact tracing data does not indicate spread occurring within our school buildings.”

The administration is closely monitoring the situation.
