Just before 10 p.m. Jan. 30, a text message arrived warning of an upcoming storm expected to leave snow throughout the Lehigh Valley thanks to CodeRED, a service offered through Lehigh County and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Residents of Upper Milford Township may register for the service through the township website at www.uppermilford.net.
CodeRED alerts users to emergencies, or in this case a forecasted emergency, in their neighborhoods. Users may register a cellphone number or an email address.
A similar CodeRED warning alerted this user to the Dec. 16-17, 2020, snow event.
Residents in Upper Milford Township also may welcome a warning about the upcoming detour scheduled to begin in March on Chestnut Street, also known as Route 29, in the township as part of a bridge replacement project.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising motorists of a detour projected to start March 9 and continue into early July. According to PennDOT, southbound travel will be restricted and detoured for approximately five miles for vehicle traffic while truck traffic will be detoured about 11 miles. Traffic between Allen Street and Colebrook Avenue will be most impacted by the detour.

Visit the library website for COVID-19 policies and restrictions as well as information on library services and access to the library catalog.
