Syman N. Hirsch, 84, of South Whitehall Township, died Jan. 26, 2021.
The loving husband of Anita Hirsch, the couple shared 61 years of marriage.
Born in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Dorothy and Leo Hirsch.
He graduated from Moravian College and earned a Master’s degree from Seton Hall University.
He taught English and social studies in Hubbard Jr. High School for 10 years and was the vice principal of Quakertown High School for eight years. He was a writer for the Parkland Press for many years.
Assistant baseball coach in the junior high under former Dodger Joe Black, he was then the baseball coach for many years.
His favorite team was the New York Yankees and he was a member of the LV Yankee Fan Club.
He collected jokes and joke books and used the jokes to make people smile.
A member of the Jewish War Veterans, he served in the Army National Guard of New Jersey.
He enjoyed the JCC Friendship Circle and was the program chairman for many years.
He was also a board member of the Parkland School District Education Foundation.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Michael; daughter Leanne; sister-in-law Maxine Hirsch; nephew Charles Hirsch (Carol) and children Sam and Annie; and niece Robin Friedman and children Hannah and Lily.
He was predeceased by his brother Stuart.
Graveside services will be private, at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements were made by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
