Northampton swimmers fall to Liberty

The Northampton swim team fell for a second time to Liberty. The boys lost 122.5-70.5 while the girls fell 91-75 in a virtual meet.

Olivia Szerencsits and Sarah Hosking each won two events in the meet for the Konkrete Kids.

Szerencsits won the 200 free with a time of 2:02.25 as well as the 500 free with a time of 5:26.86. Hosking took the girls 200 IM with a time of 2:19.11 and also the 100 butterfly in 1:03.25.

“So far the team has been performing well in our virtual meets,” said head coach Cullen Mentzell. “In the past we have always talked about racing the clock and that we are always looking for improvement. This is true more than ever this season. With the virtual meets, it is only us at our pool so we have to swim ourselves.”

The girls relay teams also did well for the Kids against the Hurricanes.

The 200 yard medley relay won with a time of 2:05.97. The team was made up of Andrea Davidson, Hosking, Ava Gower and Olivia Green.

The 200 free relay team had a winning time of 2:01.15. The team was made up of Allison Nemeth, Hannah Nolan, Reia Sanchez and Szerencsits 2:01.15.

The 400 free relay team won with a time of 4:10.79. That team was made up of Hosking, Gower, Green and Szerencsits.

Thomas Nichols was the lone winner for the boys, taking the 200 free with a time of 1:59.18.

Bradley Chatenka won the diving competition with a score of 190.02. Boden Burkhart scored 175.57 to take second and Seth Janders had a score of 128.32 for third for the K-Kids.

Mentzell said on the girls side Szerencsits, Hosking, Hannah Nolan, and Sanchez have been close to their best times, while on the boys side it’s been Ambrose Roland, Ryan Franke and Connor Oswald.

“So far the virtual meets have been going well,” Mentzell said. “I am looking forward to completing them and getting to the District 11 Championships.”
