The big news in town Jan. 21 was Stella Esther Gallagher’s 100th birthday. Stella, a resident at the Catasauqua High Rise, was treated to fireworks for her birthday.

She was the daughter of Harvey Silvius. In 1941, Stella was married to the late Charles “Chink” Gallagher, and the couple had three sons, Charles, James and Joseph. Over the years, Stella had 29 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Stella is an member of Salem United Church of Christ. She was a cafeteria worker for the Catasauqua Area School District, and she still helps with the Catasauqua Community Food Bank and volunteers at Catasauqua Community Thrift Shop.

Catasauqua Mayor Barbara Schlegel proclaimed Stella an outstanding person in the borough and declared Jan. 21 as Stella Esther Gallagher Day in the borough.
