Moore Township supervisors reappoint roles for 2021

Despite a long reorganization meeting agenda, the Moore Township Board of Supervisors Jan. 4 meeting was completed within 45 minutes. It was a demonstration of agenda completion efficiency.

Current board Chairman Daniel Piorkowski retained his chair position. David Shaffer retained his vice chairman role. Veteran Supervisor Richard K. Gable rounds out the board of three supervisors.

Township Manager Nicholas C. Steiner was reappointed as township manager/secretary/treasurer.

All current committee members of the various township committees such as the recreation, historical, Community Days and other committees were reappointed.

Steiner noted several snow plowers were being interviewed to assist with clearing snow.

Interviews for a new public works director are nearing conclusion. It is expected the new public works director will be announced in February.

A recreation grant in the amount of $90,000 was applied for. It is a 50/50 matching grant that will give $45,000, with the township providing $45,000 in funds or in-kind services.

The recreation committee received a jungle gym it purchased at a discount. The gym will be erected at the recreation center during the spring.

Most of the township committees did not meet during December 2020.

Solicitor David Backenstoe requested the board of supervisors consider adopting a short-term rental ordinance. The board directed Backenstoe to work with the planning commission to develop the ordinance. The ordinance would also address any township Airbnb rentals.

Steiner reported there is a vacancy on the township’s planning commission. The only qualification, according to Steiner, is the applicant must be a Moore Township resident.

The next board of supervisors monthly meeting was held virtually Feb. 2. Visit mooretownship.org for more information.
