Tyrone “Ty” E. Stofflet, 79, formerly of Coplay, died Jan. 23, 2021, at The Phoebe Home Inc., Allentown.

Born in Whitehall, he was the son of the late Harold M. and Melba B. (Stettler) Stofflet.

He attended school in the Whitehall Area School District.

A 40-year professional left-handed pitcher, he lead his teams to national titles in 1975, 1977 and 1978. He was in 16 men’s major Fast Pitch National Championships. He was named an ASA All-American player 10 times. He won or shared the MVP award in the national championships five times. He was in seven national champion-ships between 1971-1979.

He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2004. In 1978, he was on the Dick Clark Live show in California and pitched against three LA Dodgers players. In 1979, he was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “This Guy Can Rise It, Drop It, and Pop It at 104 MPH.” In 1976, he and the Reading Sunners team represented the U.S. in the Internation-al Softball Federation Tournament, New Zealand.

He was an assembly line technician at Mack Trucks Inc. Plant 5-C, Allentown, for more than 29 years before he retired in 1994.

He is survived by three daughters, Kimberly A. Baer with Gregory of Lexington, North Carolina; Brenda L. Dougherty with Mark Binnig of Schnecksville and Kristine M. Yessen of Northampton; Kathryn with Harry Stofflet, who were part of his life for many years; two siblings, Lillian E. Lerch of Georgia and Larry C. Stofflet with Terese of White-hall; five grandchildren, Andrew Baer with Madison, Jake Baer with Chelsea, Brooke Dougherty, Spencer Dougherty and Nikita Yessen; and a great-granddaughter, Hadley Baer.
