Goldie Gregoria Vass, 95, died Jan. 26, 2021. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late George and Julia (Semenek) Gaul. She was the wife of the late John Vass for 61 years.
She graduated from Bethlehem HS. She earned a bachelor of science degree in special education from East Stroudsburg University at the age of 50, and earned a Master’s Degree from Lehigh University two years later.
She was a lifeguard at Saucon Park, a psychiatric aide at Allentown State Hospital and a teacher’s aide for the I.U. #20. She was a classroom teacher and later was an educational consultant for Intermediate Unit #20 until she retired.
She was a member of St. John Capistrano Roman Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society; and St. Anne’s, where she sang on both choirs and was a greeter.
She volunteered for the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, the Historic Bethlehem Partnership, the Bethlehem Garden Club and St. Luke’s Hospital. She sang with the St. Luke’s Singers, the Cathedral Choral Society and the NCCC choral group.
She is survived by a son, Jack Vass (Louise) of Allentown; a daughter, Jan Vass of Selinsgrove; four grandchildren, Kimberly Vass-Mitch of Belvedere, New Jersey; Scott (Katie) Vass of Harleysville, Kevin (Heidi) Vass of Thousand Oaks, California; and Christen Hoey (Dr. Brian) of Emmaus; and nine great-grandchildren, Tucker Mitch, Aidan Vass, Graeme Mitch, Nadia Vass, Cami Stehly, Maeve Stehly, Lucas Ninic, Ben Vass and Sydney Vass.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Helen Auer, Julia Horwath, Ethel Chuday and Mary Culligan; and three brothers, Geza Gaul, Anthony Gaul and William Gaul.
