Macungie Manor conditional use hearing continued

Part two of the conditional use hearing was held during the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting Jan. 18 held via Zoom. The hearing continued about the proposed Macungie Manor. The facility will be used for independent and personal care residents. The lot is shared with South Whitehall Township.

The location for the project is in a residential neighborhood. The reason for this location is to encourage resident and neighbor interaction which helps the elderly to deal with isolation.

Residents in the neighboring properties are expressing concerns for this development. Concerns include traffic, water and the residential area. Hillview Road is quite narrow. Residents like to walk, jog and cycle on this road.

Water is already a concern for residents. Various correspondence was received by the township showing pictures of low lying places where water gets retained and causes flooding.

This area has various forms of wildlife including deer and foxes.

Concerns were expressed for the road conditions in the area. Nonnemaker Lane was mentioned as a place where residents bike, walk and jog. Hillview Road is too narrow for excessive traffic. This area also accommodates traffic traveling to Lehigh Valley Hospital on Cedar Crest Boulevard.

The hearing will continue 6 p.m. Feb. 18. There was an executive session to set the time and date.

In other business, Christopher Sacchi was appointed chair of the environmental advisory committee.
