FHS happy for season

Senior swimmers Abby Burnette and Dan Connell will serve as captains this season for the Freedom Patriots, coached by Alisha Roscioli.

“Both are going above and beyond to be there for the team and help where they can,” Coach Roscioli said. “Practice is going well and morale is great. The kids come ready to work and help each other out.”

In addition to Burnette and Connell, key returners for the Patriots will be Aliah Corrado, Deb Belen, Eric Mann, Andrew Ehret, and Luke McClure.

“The kids were very excited and happy to have a season this year,” said Roscioli.

Freedom’s season opener against Easton was scheduled for Monday, but COVID-19 concerns pushed its season opener to this Thursday. The Patriots and Red Rovers are then scheduled to meet again on Saturday.

“Swimming and diving against the same team twice in a row is not ideal,” Roscioli said. “However, every race is different and exciting.”

Freedom’s divers are seniors Sarah Gill and Cailin Connelly, both returning.

“Competing against someone who you raced or dove against a couple days beforehand can make you work harder to get the scores and times you need,” Roscioli said.

Since meets are virtual this year, swimmers will be racing against the clock. Teams within the East Penn Conference will compete against schools within their county, and home teams will compile the results.
