Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty are looking for bounce back weeks, while Freedom is just hoping to start their season as we head into the stretch run of the winter basketball campaign.
The Golden Hawks (3-3) have split their series with Easton and Nazareth, losing to the Blue Eagles 67-48 last week.
Head coach Scott McClary likes that his team is battling, but understands there will be growing pains with a young group.
“Every week brings new challenges for us,” McClary said. “We are working with a roster with very little varsity level game experience. We are learning what it takes to compete at this level.”
That learning curve will come to a head this week for Becahi and Liberty (0-2), as they square up against each other with contests on Tuesday and Thursday.
The Hurricanes will be in dire need of winning some games after getting swept by Northampton last week.
The K-Kids sneaked by Liberty 54-51 in the first encounter and then handled them in the back-to-back 45-34, setting them up with some pressure to get a win.
McClary knows this city rivalry clash will be difficult.
“Liberty will be a very tough opponent,” he said. “They have a lot of talented athletes. We will need to handle their defensive pressure as well as work to keep them off the offensive glass for us to have a chance at being successful.”
After the city series with Liberty, Becahi will face Freedom on Saturday.
