WCSD reports more COVID cases; Gockley closes for cleaning

Whitehall-Coplay School District continues to notify families of positive COVID-19 cases in the district.
A Jan. 20 notification informed families of three new cases in the district. One case is a Whitehall High School student and another is a Gockley Elementary School student. Both were last in school Jan. 12. The third case is a learn-at-home Whitehall-Coplay Middle School student.
A Jan. 21 notification reported six new student cases. Three of the cases are attributed to WHS. Two of the WHS students are part of the learn-at-home instructional model. However, one of the students was at school Jan. 10 for extracurricular purposes. The third WHS student was last in school Dec. 12, 2020. The other three cases are all learn-at-home students - one from WCMS, one from Steckel Elementary School and one from Gockley Elementary.
The district reported three student cases and two staff cases Jan. 22. One student attends WCMS and was last in school Jan. 12. Another student attends WHS and was last in school Jan. 19. The third student case is from Gockley and was last in school Jan. 19. The two staff members work at WCMS. One was last in the school building Jan 13 and the other Jan. 19.
A Jan. 23 notification reported a positive case for a staff member at Gockley. Due to four positive student cases and one staff case within a two-week period, Gockley was closed to students through Jan. 27 for a thorough cleaning. Students were expected to return to school Jan. 28.
There were four student and two staff cases reported Jan. 25. One staff member is from WHS and was last in school Jan. 20. The other works at WCMS and was last in school Jan. 22.
Two of the student cases are attributed to WCMS. One student was last in school Jan. 22, and the other is part of the learn-at-home program. One of the students attends WHS and was last in school Jan. 5. The other case is at Steckel, and the student was last in school Jan. 12.
The notifications inform families the district will work with Pennsylvania Department of Health to monitor the cases. Families are encouraged to be diligent about monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and to use the WCSD student screening card, available on the website at whitehallcoplay.org.
