During the Jan. 12 Coplay Borough Council meeting, Councilman Steve Burker indicated there will be five open seats on the park and recreation board.
Each seat is a five-year term. The next meeting of the park and recreation board is scheduled for Feb. 24.
In a motion made by Councilman Mark Molitoris, borough council unanimously approved the hiring of VGG Consulting LLC as the borough’s grant writer. In the near future, the council lead for each committee will meet with the grant writer to discuss ideas and create a priority list for future applications.
Councilman Rick Kern mentioned the application for a grant to assist the firefighters would be initiated so an oxygen-replacement machine could be purchased.
Motions were made to approve Vince Genovese as the borough police chief; Brandon Bechtel as borough fire chief; Matthew Haedrich as deputy fire chief; and Dakota Fenstermaker as assistant fire chief. These motions were unanimously approved by council.
The approval of Kimberly Bachman as the borough secretary and treasurer and Tiffany Benson as assistant borough secretary also occurred, with all council members being in favor.
With the exception of Kern, who abstained, council approved the lease for Balliet Stadium with Coplay Sports.
In other committee reports, it was noted the public works department was expected to have its last Christmas tree pickup Jan. 22.
Borough council will hold its next workshop meeting Feb. 2.
