The Allentown Department of Parks and Recreation is expanding its “Recreation at Home” virtual programming series with the addition of an “Active Allentown” calendar.
Throughout 2021, on the first of each month Parks and Recreation staff will debut a monthly calendar full of a variety of activities for participants to enjoy.
This program encourages school-age children to become more active by taking small steps towards a healthier lifestyle.
Each day participants are asked to try a different physical, mental or emotional activity with a household family member and/or adult supervision.
“Our goal is to emphasize recreation can occur anywhere, whether at home, in your neighborhood or in one of the city’s many park spaces,” Parks and Recreation Director Karen El-Chaar said. “Additionally, we want to promote the various ways individuals and families can lead healthy lifestyles. Being active goes well beyond just physical activity.”
The “Active Allentown” calendar and all “Recreation at Home” content can be viewed on the department’s social media pages at AllentownParksandRec and on the department website at allentownpa.gov/RecreationAtHome.
Additionally, the department encourages community members to subscribe to the new YouTube Channel at Allentown PA Parks and Recreation to access “Recreation at Home” video content.
For additional information and resources, residents and visitors may contact the Parks and Recreation office at 610-437-7757 and/or follow the department on social media via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at AllentownParksandRec, as well as subscribing to the new YouTube Channel, Allentown PA Parks and Recreation.
