LV ACADEMY NEWS New year, same stuff By Alex Campos

Goodbye and good riddance 2020. HELLO 2021! We are halfway through the school year and things are quickly coming to an end. 2020 came and went, but sadly COVID is still here. This is causing a disturbance in the planning of events at LVA.

LVA has many clubs, but due to the pandemic, many of the clubs were not able to host events this year. One of the only clubs that is still running in LVA is the Student Council. Right now the members of the Student Council are trying to plan events that can be performed safely within the school, but due to this pandemic there is no saying what can happen.

LVA is said to resume in-person learning starting Jan. 25 in the form of hybrid. Honestly, I am glad to be going back, I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it is to learn IB math online.

Many students are happy to be going back. Many are excited to see some friends while others just find it impossible to learn at home. I, for one, find myself checking my phone every two minutes, followed by watching one or two videos on YouTube, then playing some Among Us to pass the time. Hey, online learning gets tiring.

Senior year is taking a huge toll on us seniors, from having all these assignments to do, to not having any fun upcoming events. Here is what a student has to say about their senior year.

“Senior year? This is not senior year, if it is then I don’t want it. Senior year is supposed to be fun and memorable, and here we are stuck at home. I lost so many of my friends, like now there are only four people I talk to, and you are one of them.

“My senior year was literally taken away from me. Like I understand that the class of 2020 missed graduation and prom, but the class of 2021 has it much worse. At least the class of 2020 had the first three quarters of their senior year. At least they had homecoming; at least they enjoyed pep rallies. At least they got to party and have fun with their friends. What did we have? Nothing.

“We can’t even go out with our friends. We will be lucky to even have prom and graduation. We have it way worse, and it feels like people don’t see that. I honestly want this year to be over, I am ready for college.”

Sadly, we seniors are going through so much and nothing is going to change. Corona is not going to just disappear overnight. If you know or see a senior in high school, please congratulate them and tell them not to give up, because they are most likely going through a lot.

Class of 2021, we are strong, and we will be able to get through this, and get through much worse. Remember to stay safe out there. Wear a mask and wash your hands.
