John R. Griffith, 87, of Allentown, died Jan. 6, 2021, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, after sustaining injuries in a motor vehicle accident.
He was the husband of the late Helen E. (Price) Griffith who died last year.
Born Oct. 18, 1933, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Frank E. and Hilda (Wetzel) Griffith.
In 1960, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Drexel University.
His career began at Aero Service Corporation, Philadelphia, where he was a draftsman and estimator for 15 years.
He then was the project engineer at A.W. Martin Associates, King of Prussia and Allentown, from 1968-80.
After relocating to Allentown in 1973, he served as president of Martin, Bradbury and Griffith, Civil Engineers and Land Surveyors, Allentown, from 1980-95.
His professional affiliations include memberships in the Engineers Club of Philadelphia, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers and he was a Fellow at the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Active in the life of his church, he was a member of Jordan United Church of Christ, South Whitehall, where he served eight years on the consistory, three years of which as president and 15 years as treasurer.
Before that, he was an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Allentown.
His survivors include brothers Robert N. Griffith (Wencke) of Harleysville, Richard A. “Rick” Griffith (Donna) of Warrington; brother-in-law William Price of New York City, N.Y.; two nieces; and four nephews.
