Allentown Art Museum to reopen first week of January

With the announcement Dec. 30, 2020 by Gov. Tom Wolf that special COVID-19 mitigation restrictions put in place Dec. 12, 2020 will expire Jan. 4, the Allentown Art Museum confirms it will reopen to the public Jan. 8.

The museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Visitors are encouraged but not required to reserve a timed ticket in advance.

The museum also confirms the much-anticipated exhibition Rembrandt Revealed, which spotlights the master’s 1632 painting Portrait of a Young Woman, will open in the museum as planned, to members Jan. 23 and to the public Jan. 24.

The painting returns to the Lehigh Valley following conservation in New York that uncovered new information about its creation which inspired worldwide press coverage.

Rembrandt Revealed will be on view through May 2, after which the painting will travel to Canada for exhibition in a Rembrandt show at the National Gallery in Ottawa before returning to Allentown for a second special exhibition in the fall.

Also in January, the museum will present a week of virtual programing celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., Jan. 16-22.

•Operating at reduced capacity and limited hours.

•Requiring staff and patrons to wear face masks.

•Enforcing social distancing.

•Offering hand-sanitizing stations throughout the building.

•Continuing enhanced cleaning measures throughout the building and daily health screenings for all museum employees.

“The health of our staff, patrons and the greater Lehigh Valley community remains our top priority,” museum president and CEO Max Weintraub said. “We are grateful for your continued support and trust in us.”
