Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Dec. 8, 2020, to discuss the Century Commerce Center financial security reduction request. The request is both financial and time based.
When the township approves large projects, it always puts a time limit for completion, so the financial security that has been posted doesn’t get too low as compared to what today’s costs are, planning commission Vice Chairman Paul Link explained.
The Century Commerce Center has reached the end of that time period and, as such, has requested additional time to complete the project. The center representatives have also redone the numbers, so the security they have now would be enough to complete those improvements.
Both the 2018 and 2019 rainy seasons, plus the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic, have played large roles in delaying improvements. It is because of these setbacks the center requested extra time.
As for the reduction, which is more than $2 million, the center has completed work in that amount, so it is ready to be reduced.
The board approved two motions - one to reduce the security by that amount and another to give the center an extension to Dec. 1, 2024, to complete the needed improvements.
