John “Mockie” T. Shafer, 87, of North Catasauqua, died Dec. 21, 2020, in Franklin, Tenn. He was the husband of Janet P. (Mondrick) Schafer for 58 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Asa and Amelia (Handshue) Schafer.

He was in the U.S. Army for two years.

He worked for 16 years at the Allentown Record Company. He then became a postal worker with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked at Willowbrook Golf Course after his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion. In 1960, he received an award for best athlete in the city of Allentown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jill Schafer Boehme and her husband Eric and Jamie Soranno and her husband Tom; eight grandchildren, Jonathan, Maggie, Rachel, Ida, Spencer, John, Molly and Asa; one brother; and two sisters.

He was predeceased by 10 siblings.
