John A. Brosious
John A. Brosious, 94, of Allentown, formerly of Whitehall, died peacefully Jan. 2, 2021.
Born in East Mauch Chunk, now Jim Thorpe, he was a son of the late Herman and Laura Brosious.
A highly respected teacher, counselor, coach and referee, his career spanned more than 40 years in the Hamburg, Catasauqua and Northampton Area school district.
He retired from the Northampton Area School District.
A proud veteran of the Greatest Generation, he served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
While in the service, his athletic talents shone as a member of the Armed Forces PAC Tournament baseball team, playing in an exhibition game against the New York Yankees in Korea.
He returned home and became a lifelong member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367, Whitehall.
A four-sport athlete at East Stroudsburg State College, he was an elected honorable mention All American for soccer, later earning his Master’s degree in counseling at Lehigh University.
His athleticism was recognized in 2001 when he was inducted into the Jim Thorpe Sports Hall of Fame and later to the Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame.
Upon retiring from his teaching career, he enjoyed many years as a court crier in the Lehigh County Courthouse and later as a board member of the Whitehall Township Water Authority.
His greatest pleasure was his cherished family.
The beloved husband of Rosemarie (McFadden), the couple was married 66 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, James, of Fairfax, Va.; and was treasured by his children, John and his wife, Patricia, of Mechanicsburg, Kevin and his wife, Joan, of Allentown, Maureen Scharnitz and her husband, Scott, of Northampton and Michael and his wife, Mindy, of Laurys Station.
He leaves a legacy of 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother Robert.
An active member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, Whitehall, he was a long-serving usher and Eucharistic minister.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, his Mass of Christian Burial and interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown, are private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Allentown Central Catholic High School, Development Office, 301 N. 4th St., Allentown, PA 18102 to benefit student scholarships.
