Connell F. Maguire

Connell F. Maguire, 86, formerly of Allentown, died Dec. 30, 2020, in the home of his daughter, Eileen, in Hendersonville, Tenn.

He and his wife, Deborah Ann (Gleason) Maguire, were married 60 years.

Born Jan. 17, 1934, in Darby, Delaware County, he was the son of the late Connell F. Maguire Sr. and Mary (Doherty) Maguire.

He was a 1952 graduate of Archmere Academy and a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics.

For 10 years, the couple was adopted by their Egypt neighbors where he was fire truck No. 4 driver.

He loved firefighters, especially the volunteers, and taught hydraulics in several counties.

He worked for the Navy Department, Bureau of Aeronautics, Philadelphia, for three years and then the former Western Electric, Allentown, for 29 years.

He taught hydraulics for several years at the former Northampton Area Community College, now NCC, and Bethlehem Vo-Tech.

He was employed at Rexroth Corp., Bethlehem, for nine years before retiring in 1999.

A member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield, he was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 10921.

Additionally, he was a member of the Black Diamond Society of Model Engineers, Bethlehem, and the National Railway Historical Society.

He held various public safety positions in Whitehall and South Whitehall townships for many years.

He enjoyed 57 years in Lehigh County.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son John E. Maguire (Mary) of Whitehall; daughter Eileen M. Minton of Hendersonville; and grandson, Chad M. Minton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Jan. 7 at St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield.

The Rev. Msgr. Robert J. Wargo will be the celebrant.

Family and friends may pay their respects 10-11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Interment will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville.
