STUDENT PROFILE Bethany Dominguez, LV Charter HS for the Arts Coordinated by Julie Swan
Grade: 12th
Family members: I have a father (Angel Dominguez), mother (JoEllen Dominguez), younger sister (Sarah Dominguez), and younger brother (Stephen Dominguez).
Favorite subject(s): My favorite subjects are algebra and physics. I love solving algebraic equations and applying them to the world around me.
Activities: I participate in mixed martial arts, and am a member of Student Council, Student Ambassador, National Honors Society, Youth for Christ, and the Engineering/STEAM Club.
Next steps: After high school, I plan to go for a bachelor’s degree in physics. From there, I will decide if I want to jump into the working world or pursue a graduate degree.
Career goals: I have not yet chosen a specific career path. All I know is that I want to do something that involves physics, applied mathematics, and travel.
Heroes: My grandparents are my heroes. From a young age, my grandmother has stressed the importance of giving to one’s community through her countless donations and warm meals served to the homeless. My grandfather constantly reminds me of the importance of hard work as he balances a job at UPS, a flower garden, and household chores at the age of 80.
Hobbies: I love to read and write (creatively), participate in theater productions, and go on walks with family and friends.
Current job(s): Currently, I live stream Sunday morning services on Facebook for my church.
Volunteer/community work: In school, I mentor and tutor fellow students. Outside of school, I instruct students of various belt levels and ages at my local dojo.
Likes: I like having informative discussions with my peers, solving mathematical equations, learning new skills, and walking around my neighborhood on December nights after my neighbors have put up their outdoor lights and festive decorations.
Dislikes: I dislike when the voices of others are invalidated, when a favorite character of mine passes away in a book, and when I am kept away from my loved ones.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment so far is earning my first degree black belt in mixed martial arts.
Advice for peers: I advise my peers to never second-guess nor limit themselves. There were numerous opportunities I wrongfully passed up because I thought I wasn’t qualified to access them. If an opportunity comes your way, give it a shot; you never know what doors it may open.
Student profile subjects are selected by faculty and administration at the individual schools.
