SHS announces student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently a senior at Salisbury Senior High School.
Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. I live with my mother, Maureen Pester, my stepdad, Steven Smith, my stepdad’s grandfather, Harold Smith, my younger brother, Cieren Pester, my youngest brother, Chanse Smith and my dog, Chloe.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject would either have to be math or science. I enjoy both of these because numbers are something I have always easily understood and science because this allows me to research various things I may be interested in.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I have received either honor roll or high honor roll every marking period for my grades. I have also received third place in the 2019 Summer Engineering Institute Program run by Lehigh University.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has COVID-19 impacted these activities?
A. I was in the Salisbury High School marching band and COVID-19 has stopped us, musicians, from being able to go to most games. We were only allowed to go to home games and even then, it was difficult because there was not much of a crowd to play for.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan on going to college for my bachelor’s degree and then move straight into medical school to get my medical license. I plan on becoming a geneticist so going through these steps seems to be the most logical way to go.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to this day was most likely getting my permit. I was so nervous and kept saying I was “busy” that it took forever for me to get it.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as someone honest and hardworking in school. However, I also want people to remember me as someone who would relax when I could and someone people could always talk to when they had trouble.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my grandfather because he was my father figure growing up and he was also someone who had an important job. Although, I saw his job as something far greater seeing as his job was to save other people’s lives and he enjoyed doing so very much.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. The advice I give to any one of my juniors or anyone else reading is this: No matter what road you take and no matter what decisions you chose to take in your lifetime, live life the way you want to and in a way you will be proud of.
